Eagle Fund Takes Flight Enabling Lowry Elementary to Dream Big

The practice of giving, of both volunteer time and money, is alive and well at Lowry Elementary.  And to ensure that our school can continue to grow and thrive, we are launching the Lowry Eagle Fund.  This fundraising initiative will help support and fund our school’s collective vision, so that each of our students can look forward to a bright future.

The Lowry Eagle Fund is an annual fundraising campaign with an estimated goal of raising $125,000 each year for its first three years.  The fundraising focus is on individual giving, with the potential for corporate and foundation support.  The Eagle Fund will replace Lowry’s current Dollar-A-Day Program, and will provide more formalized guidelines with respect to how money is to be spent and will include more focused fundraising efforts. As with Dollar-A-Day, we will continue to strive to achieve 100 percent participation from Lowry families over time.  Total participation will allow us to secure funding from grants and foundations.

Operating separately from the Lowry PTO, the Eagle Fund’s explicit purpose is two-fold.  First, the Eagle Fund will continue to maintain lower student/teacher ratios at Lowry by providing salaries for additional teachers and paraprofessionals.  Second, the Fund will enable Lowry to enhance its academic offerings in areas to best serve the needs of its entire student body.

Based on a needs assessment conducted by Lowry’s Collaborative School Committee (CSC), a “Giving Menu” has been established with the following annual funding priorities:

q       Additional teachers and/or paraprofessionals for the classroom

q       Half time academic intervention teacher

q       Mini-grant fund for teachers to offer new in-class programs

q       Full time gifted and talented program

q       Full time computer program

q       Allocating a minimum 10 percent for future school endowment via Eagle Fund Savings

Other giving opportunities to be available over time may include funding a full time science teacher, a full time language teacher and a half time integrated arts teacher for drama, instrumental music and dance.

A founding committee is serving as the Eagle Fund’s operating group.  The committee members will identify, cultivate and solicit leadership and individual gift prospects.  In addition, this committee will be governed with bylaws that outline financial practices, confidentiality standards, reporting and accountability practices, member terms and election procedures.

The Eagle Fund is a proactive, inclusive effort that requires a broad base of support.  We welcome your input as this enhanced fundraising initiative continues to take shape.  If you have thoughts on funding priorities, interest in committee involvement, suggestions on prospects outside the Lowry school community, or other items to consider, we would appreciate hearing from you.

With our collective commitment, the long-term goals of our school are achievable.  The Lowry Eagle Fund will further ensure that all our students walk out of Lowry Elementary with their heads held high, having earned the self-confidence, skills and desire to master the education they so richly deserve and is uniquely their own.

We look forward to your participation in the Lowry Eagle Fund and thank your for your support.
