Welcome to another year at Lowry Elementary School. My name is Leanne Golledge and I am the PTO board member for Curriculum Support. We have some great things organized for your student this year. Again this year we have RIF (Reading is Fundamental). This is a federally funded program where students get to choose a book to take home and keep. This will happen 3 times during the school year. On these days we will need volunteers to help with the book distribution.
Missoula Children Theatre will return to the school this year from December 1st – 6th. This year’s production will be with Alice and a White Rabbit and a Wonderland full of amazing characters. Again we will need two host families for the production team from MCT. If you would like to be a host family please contact Erin Vogel at: kriserin@comcast.net or (303) 364-5839. Auditions will be December 1st - after school, with rehearsals all week and two shows on Saturday, December 6th, 2008. The Scholastic Book Fair will be open twice during the school year. The first book fair is in November, so look for more information coming soon about this event. The second book fair will be in spring. All money raised from the book fairs will go back to the library for the purchasing of more books. By now I hope your student has been talking about the Word of the Week. Each week the whole school has a new word to learn. This year we will continue to support Shakespeare Festival, Junior Great Books, and School-wide Assemblies. New for this year is a Book Exchange in January. Start to look out those books that the children have finished reading and collect them for the exchange. We will also have an area for parent resource books. More information will be available before Winter Break. These are the big events for the school year and Curriculum Support. I will keep you informed about other events during the year. Parents remember we do have a resource library for your use in the school library.
